Is Shakeology safe while nursing?

I get this question a lot because I myself am a nursing mother. Is Shakeology safe to drink while nursing a baby? My answer will always be to check with your doctor or lactation consultant. Most doctors are perfectly okay with Shakeology while nursing. Some doctors or LC's will say no to any supplements while nursing without even looking at the ingredients. If they do this, insist they look at the label carefully. Shakeology isn't just any supplement.
My Pregnancy Story:
When I first found out I was pregnant I was ecastic! I had wanted a baby for so long. Then the m
orning sickness hit. To call it morning sickness is very deceiving. It was 24 hour sickness. I had a heck of a time keeping any food down at all. If I was lucky maybe I could handle some toast or plain pasta. Forget prenatal vitamins. To me they tasted like metal and I could not swallow them. I was worried about my baby's health and my own because of my lack of food. I had never tried Shakeology before but I had heard of it so I took the nutrition label to my OBGYN. He checked the label for Vitamin A levels (which, can be dangerous if too high for pregnant women). He okay'd me to drink Shakeology in place of a prenatal vitamin as long as I added a DHA/Folic acid pill. And thus began my love affair with Shakeology.
Right around Easter during my pregnancy I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I reached out to find a coach on twitter and found my coach Melanie. I talked with her about the diabetes, meal planning and Shakeology. She informed me that Shakeology is low on the glycemic index and actually very good for people who are diabetic because of the proper carb to protein ratio. On the recommendation of my doctor I saw a nutrtiionist. I showed her the Shakeology label and she okay'd me (with two enthusiastic thumbs up) to continue.
Nursing with Shakeology:
Once I started nursing my baby I again took the Shakeo packet to my LC. She said the ingredients were so impressive that it would actually HELP my milk supply. I have been drinking Shakeology since Elise was 1 day old. She is now 9 months and I have never once had a dip in supply. Not through dieting, not through exercising, not through stress, not through going back to work and pumping.
It's so important for women to realize that what you put in your body effects your milk supply. Shakeology is giving you 70 super foods and whole nutrition. The better your nutrition, the better your milk supply!
My recommendations
**If you are not used to a healthy eating lifestyle - start with half a scoop for a week.
**If you or your baby has a dairy allergy, try the vegan formulas
**Use Shakeology as a snack rather than a meal replacement, since you need the extra calories for your milk supply.
Testimonials:
I've been ok'd and have been drinking it for only 4 days. The only major thing I've noticed is even with a lack of sleep, I have a lot of energy. I'm no longer counting down the hours until bedtime or wanting to take a nap at work.~ Amy P.
I've been drinking it since she was 5 weeks old. I've never had any issues. She's now 14 months and I drink the vegan. Every Time I blend it she comes running to drink some. Still nursing too.~Emily V.
I started drinking shakeology while nursing my daughter. She was 20 months at the time. She never had any issues as far as gas or other reactions. While I was not nursing around the clock I did not notice any decrease in supply issues. She prefers however to drink it herself!!~Danielle M.
I drank it through my whole pregnancy and am still drinking it everyday. She is 3 1/2 months old and hasn't had any issues!! I use it as a snack rather than a meal replacement to make sure I am getting enough calories in the day ~Jessica C.
I just started drinking half of a serving to start then I gradually moved to full packet. He didn't have a reaction. I drink the vegan variety~Melissa L.
Had it during pregnancy and continue now (Hillary is 8mo). Never asked because I know it's healthier than lots of other stuff I could be eating. I have it as a snack or post workout meal vs a full blown meal. I've never had supply problems nor reactions with Hill.~Katie P.
I was ok'd and drank it for all 14 months that I nursed my son. I did have to go with the Vegan versions as my son had a dairy protein allergy. I love that we offered that option! He did very well with it and I would actually drink 2 a day just because it was easier to make a shake really quick as opposed to making a snack to eat while he nursed.~Renee S.
