Insanity Max30 - 30 Day Review
My Insanity Max30 – 30 Day Review.
For the past 30 days I have embarked in Shaun T’s ultimate workout: Insanity Max30. Something about Shaun T drives me towards him and when it was announced he was coming out with a 30 minute version of my all time favorite at home workout, I just had to try it out.
What is Insanity Max30
Insanity Max30 is the craziest 30 minutes of your day. It incorporates old school Insanity moves with 150 new moves to help you get the best results.
Insanity Max30 revolves around the concept of “Maxing out.” What does that mean? When you start the workout you give it your all for as long as you can. When you just can’t do it anymore you take a break, write down your time, and jump back in. The next time you do that workout you try and improve on your Max Out time. This was amazing for me because I am a competitive person. And who is the one person I compete with the most? Myself!
Here is the calendar that came with Insanity Max 30 along with all my Max Out times. The numbers on top are the calories burned.
How is Insanity Max30 different then the original Insanity?
Don’t get my wrong, I LOVE the original Insanity workout. It’s the first Beachbody workout I ever did and what made me fall in love with the company. Insanity is crazy hard and there is no modifier. All the workouts are 45-60 minutes with numerous breaks throughout the workout. Insanity Max30 is only 30 minutes with much shorter breaks throughout. There is also a modifier you can follow through the entire workout. In fact, there is an option to split the screen on the DVD so you can follow the modifier the entire time. (Genius Beachbody! Pure genius!)
I admit, I modify this workout about 50% of the time. The workout involves a lot of jumping and plyo moves. I am a new mom and these types of moves aren’t always feasible for me (if you are a new mom, you know what I mean). Even with modifying I was still able to complete the workout and get results.
Nutrition
If you are familiar with the 21 Day Fix, Max30 follows the same nutrition guide. It breaks down nutrition into categories (or colored containers)
Green-Veggies
Purple-Fruits
Red-Proteins
Yellow-Starches/Carbs
Orange-Dressings/Seeds
Blue-Cheeses/Healthy Fats
Teaspoons-Oils/Nut butters.
Since I had already done the 21 Day Fix it was easy for me to follow the plan. I bumped up my containers since I am a nursing mommy. Here is my daily allowance.
4 Greens, 3 purples, 4 reds, 3 yellows, 1 orange, 1 blue, 4 teaspoons.
Some days it was hard to get in all that food but I stuck with the plan as best I could - even over the holidays!
What are the first 30 days like?
Cardio Challenge
This is a 30 minute workout consisting of the hardest cardio sequences you have ever tried. It is quite a welcome to your journey with Insanity Max: 30 since it is the first workout you will complete with the series.
Tabata Power
The Tabata workout will definitely leave your muscles begging for mercy. This will be the beginning of your strength training starts with Insanity Max: 30 using the Tabata-style discipline of fitness. That means you will be doing power moves in increments of 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off. This work out is done twice a week during the first two weeks.
Sweat Intervals
This is an intense cardio workout that will have you screaming, sweating and torching calories for the duration of the 30 minutes.
Tabata Strength
In this workout, Shaun T takes it up a notch with a NO REST, Tabata-style strength workout. And that means it will be a full 30 minutes with no 10 or 20 second rest that is typical of Tabata style workouts. The moves will follow the discipline but the recovery will not. This workout is done twice a week during the second two weeks.
Friday Fight
This workout is considered round one for the Max Out portion of Insanity Max: 30. It is a battle between your body and your mind as you fight to make the time in this workout. And remember, even seasoned Olympic athletes could not complete the entire 30 minute workout by maxing out so do not get discouraged if you cannot either. It will be a process and a level that you will build up to.
This workout has been officially deemed the new “hardest workout ever.” Every single move in the Friday Fight is a minute long. It is sure to be a challenge between your body and your mind.
Pulse
This is a working recovery day. I never did it. Hey, it says optional doesn't it :o)
What were my results?
Well here’s what everyone is really interested in. Does it really work? During the first 30 days I lost 5 pounds and 6 inches (3 from my waist). That doesn’t sound like a lot but I also didn’t have a lot to lose (Thanks to other Beachbody programs!). When I started the program I was only 8 pounds from my goal weight. Now I am only three pounds away! I know that I will achieve those results in month 2. I definitely also toned up my abdominal area and arms. I haven't seen abs in a long time. Overall I lost 4% of my bodyweight. I'll take that for 30 days :) :)
Overall this is an amazing program and I so excited to see what month two has in store! If you'd like to order your Max30 challenge pack click here.
